VAMOS is about “Rolling”

“Rolling” is the all-encompassing word we use to describe the wide-range of activities people can do on VAMOS streets. “Biking” is too narrow, “active transportation” is too long, and multimodal and micromobility are too jargony.

So, let’s roll.

How to use “roll” and “rolling”

  • “VAMOS is a complete rolling network.”

  • “I’m gonna roll over to Sweet Action for some green chile ice cream.”

  • “To make Denver the best rolling city in the country, we need to build VAMOS now.”

  • “VAMOS makes streets comfortable for all rollers.”

Backstory

We asked folks on our email list to help us fix a flaw in the English language: there's no single, non-jargony word that describes all the activities we love to do in the streets: bike, skateboard, rollerblade, one wheel, roller skate, scooter.

One suggestion pointed out that "roll" and "rolling" are already in the active transportation lexicon and could be applied more broadly, in line with the dictionary definition:

Moreover, for years, we’ve described our group bike rides as “slow rolls.” They’re glorious movements through our city averaging 6-8 miles an hour.

When we put it to a vote, you agreed that "roll" was the standout.

So, moving forward, we're going to talk about VAMOS as a "rolling network," not just a bike network, not an active transportation network, and certainly not as a multimodal or micromobility network.

Let’s roll!
