Surprise Adventure!
Few urban adventures are as joyful as riding your bike and discovering a new local gem.
Hence the Scavenger Hunt we’re doing with City Cast Denver and a new Bike Streets App feature called “Surprise Adventure!” Press a button and, like Wheel of Fortune, you get a route to a delightful surprise destination.
We’ve always tried to make the Bike Streets Map a master key to the city. As you unlock the possibilities – the myriad places you and everyone you know can go on a bike – it’s liberating.
“Possibility” should permeate how people think about bikes and our city. It’s possible to bike wherever you want: to a restaurant, coffee shop, friend’s house, church, brewery, ice cream shop, park, or library.

The saying, of course, is that it’s about the journey, not the destination. (But if you’re going to Detour Bakery in Virginia Village, for example, it is kind of about the croissants destination.) As you discover new treasures, you discover new neighborhoods and connect with the city in a way you haven’t before.
Things slow down when you move at 6-8 MPH. And even though you’re moving at a delightfully slow pace, you can cover an amazing amount of ground in a short period of time.

Give this a try: on a computer, use that not-so-good bike routing website known as Google Maps. Right click on a starting point and choose “Measure Distance.” Measure out 3 miles. Then click and drag the endpoint in a circular motion like a geometry compass. Isn’t it crazy how much of the city is within a 20-30 minute bike ride?
The destinations are infinite and the journey is special. That’s the experience of discovering new places by bike.
