The Road Ahead in ‘23

By the end of this year, anyone of any age, ability, or background should be able to comfortably ride a bike to any destination in Denver. This has huge implications for affordability, air quality, equity, and health. With VAMOS, we've produced a plan for how to make it happen. If you share our vision, we need your help as a volunteer. (We're an entirely volunteer organization.)

There are two pillars to our strategy over the next few months: build broader support and actually start building VAMOS.

For starters, we're asking the City to let us place a few cones to observe how small changes can make streets more people-friendly.

#1. Build Support for VAMOS

The next mayor and city council must support VAMOS. Volunteer to connect with folks who are running for office and show them why a complete high-comfort active transit network is essential to the future of Denver.

We need more organizations from all over Denver to throw their weight behind VAMOS and we need folks to volunteer to connect with these organizations.

The VAMOS plan is based on a series of fast-moving, low-cost experiments -- each one a bit larger than the last. For starters, we're asking DOTI to let us start with the most basic test: 7 cones (yes, we even reduced it from 8) at one neighborhood intersection for two hours. Volunteer to help build and test our early experiments.

#2. Get it Started

We're going to take all the steps we can to get VAMOS shovel-ready. If you wanna be startin' somethin', you got to be startin' somethin'.

We're fundraising to jumpstart VAMOS experimentation and the installation process. Volunteer to help us with fundraising. (All funds go to actual installation.)

We're building hardware to count pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers on the routes. Volunteer to help us build and deploy technology. That thar is a 3D printed part:

We're adding to the Bike Streets mobile apps so they're ready for prime time. Volunteer to develop open-source software with us.

We're refining the VAMOS implementation plan and budget. Volunteer to help us with the plan and finance side of things.
