VAMOS is About Access
If the City of Denver is building so much bike infrastructure, why is VAMOS necessary? The answer is access. Denver’s existing and planned high-comfort network doesn’t and will not make it possible for most people to ride to most destinations. VAMOS does.
To put this claim to the test, we took the 20 most recent requests from our route-planning service and analyzed whether a high-comfort route is possible with (1) VAMOS; (2) Denver’s current high-comfort bike map; and (3) the high-comfort routes that Denver is planning to build. (Route endpoints are anonymized.) Here’s what we found:
VAMOS map: high-comfort routes possible for 100% of requests.
Current City map: high-comfort routes possible for 10% of requests.
